10-31 picks
Last night the only thing that went wrong was Dallas not covering in their home opener against a Rockets team on a back to back. Too much Yao and Ron Ron for a soft Mavs team. Dirk got his, but the Mavs couldn't stop anybody in the second half and the Rockets pulled away. 2-0, nice start for my boys!
Hornets smashed the Suns who were on a back to back. Over paid out.
The over for the Rockets/Mavs paid out.
3-1 on the night and back on the winning track.
Picks for tonight:
Knicks +8
Knicks/Philly over 214 (risky)
Clippers +2 (Melo is out and Camby isn't expected to play either)
Clips/Nugs OVER 199.5
Spurs -1.5
Orlando -7
plus another 3 team teaser (+8)
Knicks +15
Celtics -2
Raptors +1
$400 to win $363.64
College Football
Appalachian State -1.5 because I CAN!! :eek3:

Rough night last night.
Heat got blown out. Over got blown out. Several people I talked to disagreed with me on the Knicks game and apparently they were right.
Hornets sit Paul for 9+ minutes and fail to cover by a half point. This was the right bet, it just didn't pan out.
The late add on the Lakers paid out, but the clips couldn't find their ass in the second half and fucked me on the OVER.
Utah did go under, about the only thing that went as expected.
THANK GOD FOR THE BIG BET ON THE TEASER!!! That saved the night financially, but the percentages took a big hit. Oh well, that's gambling.
Went 3-5 on the night. At least the Phillies won and that paid out.
NBA picks will be finalized later.
Hornets/Suns - Over 195
Rockets/Mavs - Over 191
Mavs -4.5
Late Add
Hornets +3

What's good bitches?!
Post 1 definitely has to be my thoughts on my Houston Rockets for the 08/09 NBA season.
First off, I love the Ron Ron acquisition. The Rockets are working with a small window to win and NOW is the time. Trading Rudy Gay away on draft day 2 years ago for Shane Battier definitely told you all you needed to know about the Rockets need to win NOW. Gay is a tremendous talent but Management didn't want to wait on him to mature and felt Shane could contribute NOW (and he has). Looking at it now, I'm still upset that we didn't keep Gay as he's matured into a nice talent much faster than Rocket management expected. Anyway, that being said I think Ron Ron brings a great defensive presence to the Rockets. He's still a very good perimeter defender, he's got a great post up game both offensively and defensively and he can also stretch defenses as he's become a more prolific 3 point shooter in the last few seasons. (note - He's hit more 3 pointers in the last 2 full NBA seasons than he has in any other years in his career. He's also averaged around 37% from long range).
Ron Ron figures to see a lot of minutes in a lot of games especially if (as this blogger expects) Yao Ming and or Tracy McGrady miss games this season. Let's be honest here, neither are exactly iron men at this point. Yao misses games like Ben Wallace misses FT's and Tmac is headed down the same path. Look for Artest to come up big this season if called upon to play big minutes.
I look for the Rockets to capitalize on the depth they have in the front court by playing Scola, Landry and Hayes in roles off the bench. Scola proved last year that he's a solid play and certainly not your typical NBA "rookie". Landry was huge when he got minutes down the stretch last season and is a much better play than Chuck Hayes in my opinion. I look for Landy to take most of Hayes minutes if the knee is solid. (There was some offseason drama as management insisted that he have all sorts of opinions and exams on his knee before talking contract. They finally matched an offer and kept the guy on the squad and I think that was an outstanding move. I love this guy being in the roatation; his per minute numbers last season were OFF THE HOOK!). Additional side note: PER is straight garbage and John Hollinger should be shot in the face for perpatrating such a fraud on NBA fans.
Guard play - Ok, this isn't a strength, but it is what it is. Skip has proven that he will make up for his terrible percentages with sheer volume. He's going to hit 100+ 3's, we can all agree on that, but he'll probably shoot 37% or less while doing it. The guy shoots something like 35% from behind the arc for his career. He's going to have to play big minutes as the guys behind him aren't impressive. Luther Head is certainly unspectacular, he's essentially another 3 point shooter and with the Brent Barry signing I'd rather see Barry launching the 3's as he's a straight sharp shooter when he's got his feet set. Aaron Brooks is an exciting scorer but really hasn't shown the ability to distribute or defend. Stevie Franchise is better off kicking reporters at this point as he hasn't shown any signs that he's ready to contribute.
It's still very much Yao and Tmac's team but Ron can and will be a huge plus for the Rockets. Great role players like Skip, Scola and Landry should help the Rockets to 50+ wins again in an ultra-competitive Western Conference.
I'm going to stick my neck out here and go on record saying that this is the year that Tmac gets out of the first round. BELIEVE THAT.

psss - Rick Kamla is a fucking hack who should be selling shoes at Payless
